Hosted by Oxford Brookes University and Green Templeton College in Oxford, United Kingdom the 2014 theme was ‘Leadership for Practical Action around the Fundamentals of Care’.
The 2014 ILC Summit was officially opened by Sir David Watson. In his opening address Sir David reflected upon the important role an Oxford College can play in enabling and encouraging debate around the complex problems of contemporary society. He challenged the delegates to think about the meaning of care in contemporary society and how a group such as the ILC could begin to shape some of the emerging debates. His thought-provoking presentation energised the 35+ group of international healthcare practitioners and researchers.
Viv Bennett, Director of Nursing, Department of Health and Public Health England challenged delegates on the first day to think more globally about nursing’s contribution to health promotion. Renee Lyons, Founding Chair in Complex Chronic Disease and Scientific Director (Emeritus) from the Bridgepoint Collaboratory for Research and Innovation then posed some questions regarding Fundamentals of Care and our dedication to improve, shape, inform and influence.
After two days of intensive discussion the group established its key themes of work for the following year:
- Research: System re/co-design (including patient flow, pathways, care and transitions)
- Learning and Teaching: Education Curriculum Framework Testing (design, content, inter-professional)
- Scholarship: Theoretical Basis of Nursing
- Policy: Palliative Care Policy
- Practice: Leadership
The ILC will meet again in Toronto, Canada, in 2015.
